The Republican leader in the Michigan Senate says an emergency funding plan to help with the Flint water crisis will likely be taken up first thing next week.
Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says lawmakers quickly approved a similar funding request in October and he expects this to be no different.
However he stopped short of saying Flint should have a blank check from the state.
He says the state should determine the severity of the issue and how to best correct it before doing that.
He also wants the state’s auditor general to keep tabs on how the money is being spent to ensure it isn’t being misused.
The Michigan House unanimously approved the $28 million supplemental budget bill Wednesday.
