State Senate Minority Leader Proposes Plan To Pay To Replace Flint Water Pipes

The state Senate minority leader says he has a plan to begin replacing water pipes in Flint at no additional cost to taxpayers.

Senator Jim Ananich, who’s from Flint, says closing a loophole that gives a tax credit to insurance companies would save the state $80 million annually.

He says that money could be used to repair Flint’s infrastructure and when that’s done the funds could be used to do the same in other cities.

Ananich says the loophole was the result of a legislative drafting error in 2012 that gave a double benefit to auto insurance companies.

He says he plans to introduce a bill that would eliminate the extra tax credit.
