The Michigan Senate has approved a citizen’s initiative that effectively will allow a wolf hunt in Michigan. The measure, which was put before lawmakers by a petition-gathering campaign, lets the Natural Resources Commission decide which animals should be designated as game animals. At issue is the debate over whether or not wolves should be hunted in the Upper Peninsula. The vote was mostly along party lines with majority Republicans supporting and minority Democrats opposing. The proposal now goes to the Michigan House, which has until the end of the day September first, to approve it or reject it. If the legislature does not approve it by then, the proposal will got to the statewide ballot.
