State Searching for Christmas Tree

Cartoon Christmas TreeAs we celebrate the theoretical midpoint of summer, the State of Michigan is already looking forward to Christmas. The search is underway for this year’s official state Christmas tree. To be eligible, the tree must be a spruce or a fir… at least 65 feet high, with a maximum crown of 30 feet and a maximum trunk diameter of 30 inches. It must be easily accessed from a road with no interference from utility wires… and it must come at no cost. Last year’s Christmas tree came from Iron River… but trees have been used from most parts of the state at one time or another.

If you have a tree you’d like considered, here’s how to let officials know:

Nominations are requested by Aug. 15, 2014. Individuals wishing to nominate a tree are asked to send their name, telephone number, a photograph of the tree and information about its size and location to ChristmasTree@michigan.gov, or by mail to:
