Copper Country residents who purchased Michigan Fuelwood Permits when they went on sale early in March may be able to purchase an additional permit this year. The permits allow residents to collect up to five cords of firewood from designated state forest land. They usually go on sale April 1st. Because of the abnormally cold winter, and the propane shortage, the DNR began selling them early. Now, the state says folks who bought theirs before April 1st can get another. Permits cost 20-dollars, and are good for 90 days. Wood harvested must be for personal use, and cannot be sold. To purchase your permit, and to find out what areas are available for harvesting, contact the DNR office in Baraga.
