Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been selected to deliver the Democratic response to the State of the Union address.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said they chose Whitmer for her efforts to ensure clean drinking water is available in communities across Michigan, and because she defeated Trump ally Bill Schuette in the 2018 Michigan gubernatorial race.
