Hurricane tracking will get a scientific “boost” from the University of Michigan today. A $151 million first-of-it’s-kind project will launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
Professor Chris Ruf of Climate and Space sciences at the University of Michigan says the satellites will be able to provide more accurate weather forecasts, because the CYG-NSS can penetrate heavy rains in a hurricane’s eye-wall.
The project uses the same type of GPS technology which allows people to navigate the roads.
