Two Drivers Arrested After Crashes In Marquette County

Two people are facing possible drunk driving charges after a pair of crashes in Marquette County.

A Trooper from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post responded to a traffic crash on M-35 near County Road ML in Richmond Township shortly before 7:00am on Saturday.  Prior to arriving on scene, Marquette County Central Dispatch advised the Trooper that a second vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed and rolled over in a citizen’s front yard, south of the first traffic crash location.

A Deputy from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department investigated the first traffic crash, in which a vehicle driven by an 18 year old man from Gwinn was traveling northbound on M-35, left the roadway and struck a tree.  The Deputy took the driver into custody for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and several other charges.  He was treated for minor injuries at UP Health Systems Marquette and was then lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

The Michigan State Police Trooper investigated the second traffic crash, in which a vehicle occupied by a 20 year old man and an 18 year old man–both from Ishpeming, were traveling southbound on M-35 when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.  The Trooper took the 20 year old man into custody for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and several other charges.

The driver was taken by UP Health Systems Marquette EMS to UP Health Systems Marquette for treatment of minor injuries and then was lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

Neither of the drivers’ names have been released.
