Michigan will use a statewide media blitz to try to change public feeling about opioid addiction.
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says it’s important to break the stereotypes associated with dependency – that those affected are “junkies,” that it’s some sort of moral failure, and that those affected are choosing to continue using.
Khaldun thinks losing some of the stigmas attached to opioid use disorder will encourage more people to get treatment.
The million dollars to pay for the ad campaign will come from the federal government.
