US Senator Gary Peters will be making a stop in the Upper Peninsula this week as part of his 4th annual motorcycle tour across Michigan.
Peters will visit the Ishpeming Senior Citizens Center on Wednesday to meet with local seniors and tour renovation efforts underway at the center.
During his tour, Peters is promoting legislation he introduced in May that would direct federal agencies to set national standards for healthy aging and creating age-friendly communities.
The bill would establish a public-private coordinating body to provide recommendations and best practices for implementing those standards.
As part of his visit, Peters will see how the facility in Ishpeming is helping to create a more age-friendly community.
Peters, an avid motorcycle rider, is additionally making stops in Metro Detroit, Flint, Escanaba, Traverse City, Grand Rapids and Grand Ledge over five days to discuss his work on behalf of Michigan in the U.S. Senate.
