Scheutte Rules Out Supreme Court Run

Former Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says he will not run for office – any office – in 2020.

In an interview with Bridge Magazine, Schuette discounted speculation that he would try to land a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court.

Justice Steven Markman will be retiring at the end of his term, leaving an opening on the court. Chief Justice Bridget McCormack’s term also expires, and she is expected to run for re-election. Markman is a Republican, and McCormack is a Democrat.

Schuette served a six-year term as a state Court of Appeals judge, but says he’ll stay out of the race, and focus on helping elect other Republicans.
