Riding A Roller Coaster May Help Pass Kidney Stones

A Michigan State University urologist may have discovered a unique way for patients to pass kidney stones.

David Wartinger has led studies to determine if his patient’s theories of riding a roller coaster was true.

Using a synthetic 3D model of a hollow kidney complete with three kidney stones in a backpack, he rode the Big Thunder Mountain at Disney World 20 times.

His initial results verified patient reports with a nearly 70 percent success rate.
