The public will have a chance to chime in about Enbridge Energy’s plan to add supports to its pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac.
The state Department of Environmental Quality will be take comments over the next 20 days.
Enbridge’s application indicates the company plans to install support structures in up to 22 locations along the existing pipelines.
The company says four anchor locations are required under the pipeline easement and the additional 18 are being installed for preventative maintenance.
Critics have said a pipeline rupture could be catastrophic for the Great Lakes.
Enbridge has said the pipelines are safe.
The state will review the application and comments before deciding if a permit will be issued.
