As state lawmakers debate legislation that would change retirement benefits for police officers and firefighters, those people affected are expecting to make their voices heard outside the capitol in Lansing.
The Police Officers Association of Michigan is organizing the rally that is expected to start around 8:45 this morning.
Those opposed to the legislation call it a “vicious attack” on health care and pension benefits.
House Speaker Kevin Cotter told lawmakers last week the current system is not sustainable.
He said many local governments will go bankrupt unless there are changes.
