New Ballot Counting Vendor Contracts Approved

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says the state has approved new contracts with three vendors to replace machines that count paper ballots in elections.

Each of Michigan’s 83 county clerks will consult with local clerks on which vendor to choose.

Johnson says $40 million has been allocated to pay most of the upfront cost, and local governments will cover the rest.

The new equipment should be in place by August 2018.
