Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked up by a tenth of a percentage point in December to 4.0 percent.
Total employment edged up by 1,000 while the number of unemployed rose by 4,000, resulting in a monthly labor force gain of 5,000.
Compared to last year, the jobless rate was seven-tenths of a percentage point lower while the overall US jobless rate went down by two-tenths of a percentage point.
Michigan’s 4.0 percentage unemployment rate is still one-tenth about the national rate of 3.9 percent.
Though this is the second month in a row that unemployment in Michigan increased, the total number of unemployed has decreased by 35,000 since December 2017 and marks the highest total of those employed in nearly 11 years.
