The State of Michigan will join other states in a potential deal with Purdue Pharma over the damage caused by its drug OxyContin.
Attorney General Dana Nessel confirmed the decision yesterday, saying the move would be better for the state than trying to pursue an individual settlement.
The arrangement would cover thousands of local governments and dozens of states that say Purdue Pharma downplayed the addictive nature of OxyContin, which helped lead to the current opioid problem.
The deal could be worth up to 12-billion dollars. There’s no estimate as to how much of that Michigan might receive.
Purdue Pharma is expected to file for bankruptcy.
