Michigan K-12 Student Count Takes Place Today

Today is Fall Student Count Day in our public schools.

Attendance today will provide 90 percent of the basis for most Copper Country school districts’ state aid allocations.

Students are encouraged to attend class, if at all possible. Students who have excused absences may still be counted if they start attending school within 30 days. Students with unexcused absences may still be included if they return to school within 10 days.

The count does not affect out-of-formula public districts, which keep their non-homestead tax revenue instead of collecting the state’s per-pupil allocation. In the Copper Country, those districts include Arvon Township, Grant Township and Elm River Township Schools.

It also does not affect private schools that do not get state per-pupil support, including Sacred Heart School in L’Anse, and the Copper Country Christian School.
