Michigan Apples Recalled

A Traverse City produce distributor has recalled a big bunch of apples.

North Bay produce says 2,297 cases and two bulk bins may have been contaminated by listeria. No illnesses have been reported, and the recall is voluntary.

North Bay says the products include McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious apples. They were sold in plastic bags under the brands Great Lakes, and North Bay Produce Pure Michigan as well as unbranded in clear plastic tote bags, white paper tote bags, and individually from retailers display trays.

The recalled apples were shipped between October 16th and October 21st to wholesalers, retailers and brokers in eight states, including Michigan and Wisconsin. No other North Bay products are affected.

Listeria can cause fever and diarrhea. Pregnant women are especially susceptible, and infections during pregnancy can be very dangerous and even fatal to the fetus.
