Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has confirmed that her department is actively investigating threats made against members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers.
Nessel said her office will investigate any credible complaints of threats to government officials, and will prosecute criminal conduct to the fullest extent of the law.
The statement did not say what kind of threats were being looked into.
Republicans on the board said they had been threatened by left-wing activists after initially voting not to certify the county’s vote totals last week.
After changing their votes to approve the certification, they took additional criticism from right-wing activists and President Donald Trump, which caused them to try to rescind their votes the following day.
