Mastodon Bones Dig Begins Tomorrow

The big dig to unearth the bones of a mastodon believed to be between 11,000 and 13,000 year old is set to begin tomorrow.

Ten teachers will work with University of Michigan paleontologists on the project that will take place over the next two weekends.

The mastodon is on the property of the Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning in Mayville, north of Lapeer.

After they are recovered, the bones will be donated to the U of M paleontology museum for further study.
