Markkanen “Disappointed” with Whitmer Over Vape Ban

State Representative Greg Markkanen is disappointed with the way Governor Gretchen Whitmer handled the new ban on flavored nicotine e-cigarettes.

Whitmer initiated the ban with an emergency order, bypassing any legislative hearings or votes. Markkanen says he supports keeping such products out of the hands of minors, but would have preferred a process in which vaping customers and business owners would have had some input.

The ban will take effect 30 days after the state health department posts the rules, and will remain in effect for six months while permanent rules to address the growing health problem are developed.
