Downstate Man Dies at U.P. Campsite

The body of a 29-year-old Oakland County man has been found at a remote campsite in Alger County.

Michigan State Police received a report that the man was missing Sunday evening.

Search parties located his car at the Big Island Lake Trailhead. In heavy rain, conservation officers canoed through four lakes, portaging in between, before they found the man on the shore of MacInnes Lake.

They say it appears he suffered an accident which opened a deep cut on his leg. He attempted to use his belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, but the effort failed.
