Democratic Politicians Share Support for UAW Strike

Michigan Democratic lawmakers are lining up to support the United Auto Workers Union in its strike against General Motors.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer posted a photo on Twitter as she delivered food to a picket line in Lansing. More than a dozen state and federal legislators have either made public announcements proclaiming their support, or joined union members on the lines.

Other labor unions are also affirming their support, including the AFL-CIO, the Michigan Education Association, and the American Federation of Teachers Michigan.

G-M officials countered with a video that claimed the company had made an offer that included billions in investments, thousands of new jobs, and better wages and benefits.

Negotiations between the two sides continued yesterday, with little progress reported. Some financial experts are predicting that Michigan’s economy will start to feel the drag within the next week.
