Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s fight to shut down the Enbridge Line Five Pipeline at the Straits of Mackinac is running into resistance from members of her own party.
Six Democratic State Representatives have called on Nessel to allow construction of the proposed tunnel under the straits that would hold Line Five’s replacement to proceed.
Nessel has deemed the project unconstitutional. She has also filed a lawsuit to have the existing pipeline decommissioned.
The six Democrats contend that protracted legal action will wind up extending the length of time Line Five will remain in use.
They include Representative Sara Cambensy of Marquette, along with one representative from Bay City, one from Muskegon, and three from suburban Detroit.
