Boats Struggle On Lake Michigan During Race

Trouble during the annual Chicago to Mackinac Island race across Lake Michigan as a 48-foot yacht called the WhoDo, took on water and sank Sunday afternoon.

After discovering a break in a rudder shaft, crew members needed to board a life raft to safety.

Nineteen boats have been forced to withdraw from the race over difficult conditions.
