This is one of the most important days of the year for school districts in Michigan.
Count day is the day that the state of Michigan uses to determine how much funding each district will receive based on the number of students present today.
90 percent of a district’s state funding comes from today’s attendance. A second count day takes place in early February.
Some districts are offering kids pizza and other gifts in hopes of getting as many students as possible to school.
Those who don’t attend class today can be counted if they have an excused absence.
