Michigan’s Attorney General Bill Schuette has filed an appeal to a federal judge’s ruling that said straight-party voting is unconstitutional because if violates the rights of black voters.
In his filing, Schuette says the law imposes a minimal burden on voters and is rational.
Clerks throughout Michigan are awaiting a decision because they have to print ballots for the November eighth election soon.
Straight-party voting allows voters to choose a party’s entire slate of candidates with just a single mark on the ballot.
