The Michigan House and Senate have formed a joint committee to look into the Flint water crisis.
Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says the committee will take testimony on the situation and examine all levels of government and what mistakes were made that led up to lead-tainted water in Flint.
However, Meekhof says it’s not an investigative committee.
He says it’s an oversight committee to determine public policy moving forward to ensure the problem doesn’t happen again.
But Minority Leader Jim Ananich, who’s from Flint, says the hearings will be investigative because they’ll have to take a look backward to make policy moving forward.
He also says he plans to introduce a resolution to give the committee subpoena powers to make sure they get honest answers.
Senator Jim Stamas will chair the committee.
He says he doesn’t see the need for subpoena powers.
