State Eying Infrastructure Improvements In Flint As A 'Long-Term' Issue

As water bottle donations pour in from corporations and Hollywood actors, the state is now turning its attention to fixing aging lead service pipes in Flint.

But Governor Rick Snyder says before that can happen they have to figure out where the pipes are.

In the short term, Snyder says the state will try and recoat the lead pipes in Flint to reduce the amount of lead leaching into the water.

Meanwhile, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Keith Creagh says there are some neighborhoods in Flint that don’t have lead service lines.

Once the state figures out which neighborhoods those are, and they test the water, residents there could potentially drink water from the tap in a few weeks.
