A new statewide poll may hold a clue as to why Governor Rick Snyder won a surprisingly large re-election victory over Mark Schauer. The Denno Research survey found that 61 percent of voters feel our state is on the right track. Just 28 percent feel we’re headed in the wrong direction. White voters and male voters were the most likely to say the state is headed in the right direction. A smaller majority of women felt the same way.

Synder Inauguration Art 2014-11-28Governor Snyder’s inauguration on New Year’s Day will be built around the theme “Relentless, Resilient, Reinvented.” The theme title is clearly based on his oft-repeated phrases, such as “relentless positive action,” and “reinvention of Michigan.” The governor will hold a receiving line at the Capitol after his noontime swearing-in and speech. Attorney General Bill Schuette is asking state lawmakers not to approve changes in sentencing laws during the upcoming lame duck legislative session. Schuette says the proposed reforms need further review to make sure that violent criminals aren’t released prematurely. The legislature is back in session Wednesday, and is scheduled to hold session days through the third week of December.
