Stand Off Suspect Stands Mute In Court

A Copper City man allegedly involved in a standoff with police last month has been arraigned in Houghton County Circuit Court.

64-year-old Jerome Flum is charged with making threats of terrorism, one count of assaulting a utility company employee and two counts of malicious use of a telephone,

Flum stood mute to all charges so a plea of Not Guilty was entered in his behalf.

Houghton County Prosecutor Michael Makinen said two additional counts of assaulting a utility company employee were dropped.

The charges stem from an incident on April 22nd in which Flum allegedly threatened a public works employee who visited his house.

Police took Flum into custody after a 12-hour standoff in which he refused to leave his home while reportedly making threatening statements toward law enforcement.

A pretrial hearing will take place in about 60 days.
