Tomorrow, Governor Rick Snyder will embark on his fourth trade mission to China in four years. The weeklong trip will include stops in five cities promoting tourism in Michigan through the Pure Michigan campaign, and build upon recent successes in attracting new job-creation business investments, highlighting the auto and agricultural industries. Snyder says the trip will also seek to restore the Chinese view of Detroit and highlight investment opportunities there post bankruptcy. The trip includes a visit to the Guangzhou (KWANG-chow) International Auto Show, to increase investment in Michigan’s surging auto industry. Snyder says Michigan agricultural exports to China have increased by 90-percent since 2010, and that China is Michigan’s third largest export market, behind Canada and Mexico. Since Snyder’s first mission to Asia in 2011, Michigan has received more than one billion dollars in new business investment from China, Japan and Korea.
