Snyder Signs Faith-Based Adoption Law

Faith-based adoption agencies that receive state money could turn away parents who want to adopt if there are conflicts with the agencies religious beliefs, under a bill signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder on Thursday.

Supporters say faith-based agencies need protection against being forced to serve those who may violate their religious beliefs.

But opponents like State Senator Curtis Hertel say the bills not only discriminate against gay couples but also parents who are divorced, like himself.

Supporters of the bill counter that there are plenty of non-faith based adoption agencies in Michigan.
