Gov. Rick Snyder and other Proposal 1 supporters Monday wrapped up an 11th hour bus tour urging voters to approve a tax increase on Tuesday’s ballot that would generate $1.2 billion a year more for roads.
Governor Snyder responded to critics of the plan by saying people who take the time to read the proposal are more likely to vote yes.
The governor held a series of news conferences Monday supporting the proposal, which if approved, increases the sales tax a penny and triggers other laws that would send more money to schools and local governments.
He admits that part of his task in the campaign has been to fend off anger over the decision by the legislature to send the ballot proposal to voters, noting “people were upset that they had to go to the ballot” rather than just being told it got done.”
