After being re-elected this week, Governor Rick Snyder is focused on his second-term. The governor made several stops yesterday to thank supporters and speak with the media about his goals. He said a plan to repair the state’s roads will be a top priority, but some lawmakers did not support raising taxes and fees in an election year to fund the $1 billion program. Snyder hopes the Republican-controlled Legislature will tackle raising more revenue for roads in the lame duck legislative session in late November and early December. Snyder also will continue his support for Detroit coming out of Chapter 9 bankruptcy and focus on improving neighborhoods. He also wants to do more to boost vocational education and other efforts to improve job training to fill thousands of unfilled skilled jobs.
