Snyder Appealing FEMA's Decision Not To Help With Flint Water Crisis

Governor Rick Snyder has announced that he’s filing an appeal with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in an effort to seek more federal funds to help the city of Flint through its water crisis.

The governor says there’s a long road ahead for Flint’s recovery and more assistance is needed as costs dealing with the crisis have risen to $140 million.
FEMA had earlier denied the governor’s request for a federal disaster declaration.

The president did approve $5 million through an emergency declaration.

The governor says the city needs the greater amount that would come through a disaster declaration.

The Obama administration says that request was denied because it’s reserved for natural disasters.

But the governor says he’s specifically requesting funding through what is known as Category B, which is targeted to protect public health and safety and would cover costs for provision of food, water and other essential needs.
