Snowmobiler Killed In Calumet Township

A Wisconsin man is dead following a snowmobile accident in Calumet Township.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the Calumet Post say 21-year-old Christopher Scott Houchin of Salem, Wisconsin was traveling southbound on Trail #3 near Copper City around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.

That’s when he reportedly left the trail and struck a tree,

Houchin was transported by Mercy Ambulance to UP Health System-Portage and pronounced dead.

The accident is still under investigation.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Laurium Police Department, MI-DNR Law Enforcement Division, Calumet First Responders, Keweenaw Trail Service and Superior Service all assisted on the scene.
