An energy optimization implementer based in East Lansing is giving away smart thermostats to Houghton and Keweenaw residence who want to see how much they can save on energy costs this winter season. Efficiency UNITED is offering about 150 smart thermostats that are valued at approximately $250. You must be an UPPCO or SEMCO customer, a current resident for more than two years at your current residence with only one thermostat, provide wifi access for the thermostat and have a forced air heating system and/or central air conditioning. The high-tech thermostats have smartphone capabilities and will help residents get an idea of how much they can save on their monthly energy bills. They are available on a first come, first serve basis and the deadline is tomorrow. For more information or to sign up, call Molly Mulvaney at 517-999-2343 (office) or 517-388-5521 (cell).
