Ski Trails Have Plenty Of Snow Now

Now that there is plenty of snow on the ground–thank you Heikki Lunta–it’s a great time to strap on your skis or snowshoes and head out to one of the areas many trail systems.

Swedetown TrailsHoughton County is home to the Nara Trails in Houghton, the Maasto Hiito trails in Hancock, The Classic Ski Trail in Chassell and Swedetown Trails in Calumet.

Cynthia MacDonald is the President of the Swedetown Trails Club and she says the lack of snow in the Midwest can actually drive more tourists to visit the Keweenaw.

With over 25 kilometes of trails, MacDonald says Swedetown is a great place for families to come because they have trails for every skill level.

Winter Trails Day is quickly approaching—a national event to introduce people to winter sports.

On Sunday, January 10th, Cross Country Sports will provide free rental skis and snowshoes and passes to use the Swedetown Trails are free that day.
