Ski Race In Need Of Volunteers

The Michigan Tech Trails will host the 2016 U.S. Nordic Ski Championships in January.

This is the 4th time Tech has hosted the event, the first being in 2007.

The national event will bring approximately 1000 people to the area, since many racers are not local.

Michigan Tech Cross Country Ski Team Head Coach, Joe Haggenmiller says the Tech teams will be racing and looking to build on their women’s third place finish in the College Cup portion of the 2015 event.

Haggenmiller said, “The races at the U.S. Senior National Championships are try-outs to compete for the U.S. Ski Team internationally at the U18 Championships in Scandinavia, the World Junior Championships, the Under-23 World Championships and then to potentially go and represent U.S. Skiing on the World Cup with the U.S. Ski Team.”

If you enjoy watching cross country ski races and want to help out your community while watching, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities at the 2016 U.S. Nordic Ski Championships.

Haggenmiller said, “It’s an opportunity to see some of the best cross-country ski athletes in the country here and an opportunity to get to hang out with other people that are enjoying the races like you are.”
