Senate Resolutions on Meat Labels, Great Lakes Restoration and Outdoor Grills

The Michigan Senate is calling on Congress to end country-of-origin meat labels and to restore funding for a Great Lakes clean-up and restoration initiative.

State Senator Geoff Hansen sponsored the country-of-origin resolution saying the World Trade Organization has ruled the labels are discriminatory and if action isn’t taken, Canada and Mexico are prepared to act with $3.6 billion in retaliatory tariffs.

State Senator Rebekah Warren backed of resolution urging Congress keep Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding at $300 million for 2016.

She says the money supports efforts to clean-up toxic pollution, reduce runoff from cities and farms, combat invasive species, and restore fish and wildlife habitat.

Both resolutions cleared the Senate, as did another asking the Environmental Protection Agency not to fund a study that could lead to regulations on outdoor grills.
