Senate Leadership React to Attorney General Flint Water Crisis Investigation

Legislative leaders in the Senate are not reacting positively to the attorney general’s probe into the Flint water crisis.

A.G. Bill Schuette announced Monday that a former prosecutor and FBI chief would head up his office’s investigation into high lead levels in Flint water and whether any state laws were broken.

However, Schuette would not say how the probe will be funded.

Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says the A.G. should wait until the investigation by a governor appointed task force wraps up, rather than duplicating efforts.

But, Meekhof says, Schuette has a history of jumping ahead of what most people think is logical.

Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, who is from Flint, says he’ll give Schuette the benefit of the doubt, but the investigation should be done right and done within the Attorney General’s budget.

He also questions why Schuette waited until now to begin a probe into an issue Flint’s been dealing with for two years.
