Attorney General Bill Schuette officially launched his bid for a second term yesterday with stops in his hometown of Midland and metro Detroit. Schuette listed a series of achievements in his first term and promised supporters he would continue to be “on duty” for Michigan residents if elected to a second. He also defended his actions in fighting a ruling that Michigan’s 2004 gay marriage ban violates the U.S. Constitution. Schuette said he took an oath to defend the state Constitution, leaving him no choice but to appeal U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman’s decision. He says the sooner that the United States Supreme Court makes a decision on the issue, the better for everyone.
