Scholarship opportunities are available for youth who are interested in learning more about the Finnish culture at a special language camp. Located in Bemidji, Minnesota, Salolampi Language Village offers one-, two- and four-week sessions in which youth are immersed in Finnish language and culture. Several scholarships are only available to Upper Peninsula residents, including a $300 scholarship made available by the Finlandia Foundation Copper Country Chapter. This scholarship covers about one half of the one-week camp tuition, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis with first-time campers receiving priority. The deadline to sign up is February 20th. That’s not the only opportunity for U.P. youth. Any young person from 497, 498 or 499 zip code areas is eligible to apply for special U.P. scholarships on a first-come basis for either a $150 one-week, $250 two-week or $450 one-month session scholarship. These scholarships are available until $2,000 is allocated. Other scholarships are automatically applied to incoming students, greatly reducing the cost of attendance. As examples, travel scholarships are available, as are need-based scholarships.
