The state Republican party chair has accused the Democratic candidate for governor of flip flopping on the Detroit bankruptcy issue, a charge the Mark Schauer campaign denies. On Tuesday, the former Battle Creek congressman indicated if he had been governor he would have probably placed Detroit in bankruptcy. But, Bobby Schostak says that’s not what Schauer said in an earlier conversation and has now changed his tune. The GOP chair says Schauer’s public comments are the absolute reverse of what’s been said behind close doors as he is now saying he would have sent Detroit into bankruptcy. The Schauer campaign argues that the candidate has been consistent on the issue and sights an August 2013 newspaper article where he said bankruptcy might have been “the only alternative.”
