The Michigan Senate and House have adopted resolutions declaring Saturday, June 27th as PTSI Awareness Day in Michigan.
Organizers say the day is designed to raise awareness of the causes and symptoms of post-traumatic stress and bring attention to the support available to those affected by it.
Last year Michigan became the first state in the country to officially change the name of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to Post Traumatic Stress Injury.
PTSI affects more than 5 million Americans each year.
It’s most commonly associated with veterans – and has been known by many other terms, including shell shock and combat fatigue – but experts say PTSI can affect anyone at any age.
