The expansive waters of Lake Superior will be the site of a sailboat race this weekend.
The 53rd Annual International Race begins in Thunder Bay, Canada and sails through the north entry of the Portage Canal.
The race is organized by the Thunder Bay Yacht club and includes boats from the local Onigaming Yacht Club, both of whom are members of the Lake Superior Yachting Association.
This is one of the oldest races on the Great Lakes and features boats from Canada, Duluth, Superior and three from the local area.
That’s Bill Griffin from the Onigaming Yacht Club.
Overall, there are about 10 boats in the race that will leave Thunder Bay at 10:00 Saturday morning and will begin arriving in Houghton during the early morning hours Sunday.
The public is invited to come down to the waterfront on Sunday to see the boats and talk to the skippers.
