Ladies and Gentlemen: Start your noise-reduced, environmentally friendly, enhanced trail maneuvering snowmobile engines!
The SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge has arrived.
The weeklong competition pits university crews from across the U.S. and Canada, with one team even making the trek from Finland this year.
The event is held at the Keweenaw Research Center and hosting by Michigan Tech.
Today’s events include the Endurance Run from the Houghton County Airpark up to Copper Harbor. Additional tests for noise, emissions and functionality are held throughout the week.
Michigan Tech’s Jay Meldrum says teams earn points for each event as they compete for the coveted MacLean-Fogg Cup.
The public will have a chance to see the snowmobiles up close at the Copper Country Mall on Wednesday and at the Keweenaw Research Center on Saturday.
The public viewing at the mall offers more than just an opportunity to look at some great snowmobiles.
