Roof Collapses At Banquet Hall In Laurium

Irish Times RoofA popular restaurant in Houghton County suffered a setback Wednesday.

The roof of the banquet hall next to the Irish Times on Hecla Street in Laurium collapsed overnight.

It appears that the roof simply gave out under the weight of heavy snow.

No one was in the building when it happened.

The facility had been a popular location for wedding receptions, meetings and their New Year’s Eve party.

Though connected, the hall is actually a separate building so the pub side of the establishment was not damaged.

Owner Lisa Ronan says they will keep the pub side closed until this Friday while they deal with the hall.

She said she appreciates everyone’s concern and says they have already spoken to a contractor about what to do next.

One option is to demolish the banquet hall entirely.

If so, Ronan laughed, they might put in a Beer Garden in its place.
